Catie Wilkins, who is working hard on her new childrens novel, has found time to take part in a photo shoot with photographer IDIL SUKAN. Here is her fabulous 2017 new look!
Linda has just won the James Reckitt Hull Book Award for her book THE DOG RAY. This is the first book I ever read of Linda's and I remember then that it gave me the wonderful shiver-down-the-spine moment, which is so rare, when you just know a book is exceptional. Many congratulations to Linda for such deserved recognition. Children of 8+ and all adults need to read this story, about a child who is reincarnated as a dog; you'll never forget it!
Well done to Catie Wilkins, whose series have gone truly international this year with new editions in French, German, Polish and Korean. Her series, published by Nosy Crow, now has four titles (and she is busy at work on one more!):
My Best Friend and Other Enemies
My Brilliant Life and Other Disasters
My School Musical and Other Punishments
My Great Success and Other Failures
PUBLICATION DAY FOR TIGER'S HEART!
And already some wonderful reviews:
"An interesting and intriguing read" The Guardian
"A poetic, haunting and unforgettable modern fable about nature, society and what it is that makes us human" Lovereading
"Filled with interesting characters..this is an intriguing story for 9-12 year olds who love animal stories. With elements of science fiction and fantasy woven through the narrative, this should attract a host of readers" Welovethisbook
I'm delighted to be working with the author Damien Doherty. Damien is Scottish, hails from a small mining town near Edinburgh. He scraped through school and many jobs, before deciding (much encouraged by his supportive wife Jennie) that he should take his writing to the next stage.
Damien's work is raw, gritty, immediate, and in places shocking. His writing draws heavily on his childhood experiences. His style, totally original, is hard to describe but think of Trainspotting crossed with Kubrick.
he is currently working on a literary biographical memoir and a teenage novel; both will be at final edit stage and ready for publishers in 2014.
Welcome Paul Phipps, my latest signing! By day, Paul does impressively grown up things in the civil service which involves briefing important politicians about Spice Girl lyrics. By night he writes gripping action/fantasy, including his latest teen novel which explores how a boy's encounter with a man who has lived many centuries uncovers some uncomfortable family secrets.
Paul is a master of page-turning storytelling; watch his work fly off the shelves in the next few years!
I've written some articles about writing for children. See here for the first one:
